Job Title: Genetic Counselor I

Cedars-Sinai is seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor I to join our team. As a Genetic Counselor I, you will provide genetic counseling following established genetic counseling practice guidelines in a cancer genetics setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess recurrence risks and recommend medical or genetic testing based upon analysis of risk, benefit, and cost.
  • Ensure proper completion of counseling paperwork.
  • Communicate both normal and abnormal results and coordinate appropriate follow-up with medical geneticist and/or supervising physician.
  • Provide case management for complex genetic cases, including coordinating medical recommendations, testing, and ongoing counseling.
  • Offer crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling regarding genetic conditions; make referrals for ongoing care and support.
  • Act as a consultant to referring physicians regarding highly specialized genetic information pertinent to the management of their patients.
  • Analyze intake information and determine if appropriate appointments have been scheduled.
  • Interact and communicate regularly with medical geneticist(s) and/or supervising physician(s).
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and work to establish yourself as a team member, providing coverage for colleagues as necessary.
  • Provide genetic counseling in accordance with applicable standards of professional care.
  • Attend continuous education courses, attend meetings, and review medical literature.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling.
  • ABGC eligible or certified (or equivalent). Expected to obtain ABGC/ABMG certification.
Experience:
  • Open to new graduates with zero to two (0-2) years' experience in genetic counseling.
  • Ability to work independently. Demonstrates refined analytic and diagnostic reasoning skills. Ability to clearly explain complex medical information in both verbal and written form.
  • Demonstrates organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Computer experience preferred. Bilingual skills a plus.
