SUMMARY

This role is responsible for overseeing a team of claims adjusters within Ryder's self-managed liability program. The position involves supervising the claims processing activities conducted by a skilled team, addressing intricate insurance and contractual coverage matters, particularly focusing on high-stakes liability claims. The incumbent will assist the Director in identifying potential risks, suggesting preventative measures, ensuring adherence to protocols, and supervising established safety and risk management initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead a team of adjusters in conducting investigations, performing vehicle assessments, and resolving intricate and high-stakes claims. Direct external vendors, independent adjusters, and specialists in the claims management process. Ensure that external partners manage claims in compliance with relevant jurisdictional requirements and provide the Director with insights regarding vendor performance.

Supervise assigned personnel to guarantee both technical proficiency and exceptional customer service standards. Monitor the technical output of staff and develop action plans to address any identified deficiencies. Oversee workflow to ensure accurate claims processing, timely reserve establishment, and proper claim reviews and coding.

Responsible for mentoring, training, conducting audits, reviewing files, and evaluating the performance of assigned personnel. Collaborate with the Director and other management to devise strategies aimed at achieving annual performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Engage with the Director in selecting and managing external vendors for investigations, cost control, auditing functions, and expert testimonies.

Collaborate with field and operations management, legal advisors, safety personnel, clients, and insurance providers. Participate in significant claim review discussions and keep field operations informed about claim statuses.

Possess an in-depth understanding of commercial auto and general liability insurance coverage, claims processing, and litigation management, with a preference for extensive experience in transportation claims.

Have a thorough knowledge of applicable laws and regulations governing Property and Casualty claims across the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Ensure compliance with state regulations and liaise with various State Departments of Insurance as necessary. Alert the Director to any changes in legislation that may affect Ryder's program.

Review reserves and trends for individual cases, recommending and establishing timely and accurate reserves based on documented developments. Ensure optimal resolution of all claims while maintaining a high standard of customer service.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform other duties as assigned. Act as the primary backup for the Director, assisting with claim assignments, overseeing all aspects of vehicle repairs, and authorizing the use of adjusters and appraisers.

EDUCATION

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in managing large and complex casualty claims is required, along with at least two (2) years of supervisory or managerial experience.

SKILLS

Demonstrated commitment to customer-centric principles.

Requires advanced technical skills in claims management, with prior experience in handling commercial claims and a comprehensive understanding of related coverages.

Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients, claimants, and insurers.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written formats.

Proven ability to effectively manage, educate, and develop team members.

Capability to provide precise instructions to staff members.

Ability to monitor workflow to ensure timely resolution of assigned tasks.

KNOWLEDGE

Familiarity with supervisory techniques and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to supervise staff responsible for handling casualty claims, including conducting audits and performance evaluations.

Experience in managing large exposures and producing detailed internal reports.

Demonstrated capability to handle complex insurance and contractual coverage claims.

LICENSES

Adjuster licenses in multiple states are preferred.

COMPENSATION

Salary is determined based on internal equity, market data, applicant skills, prior relevant experience, and specific degrees or certifications. The salary for this position ranges from $95,000.00 to $125,000.00 annually based on experience.
