Position Overview
This role is integral to the Housing Choice Voucher Program, aimed at supporting low-income individuals and families in obtaining sustainable and affordable housing solutions, thereby enhancing their quality of life and promoting self-sufficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Engage directly with clients to assess and confirm their eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
- Clearly communicate housing program guidelines and available services to participants.
- Assist diverse populations, including those experiencing homelessness, individuals with disabilities, and single parents, in their quest for permanent housing.
- Ensure compliance with program regulations and guidelines.
- Interpret and apply Housing & Urban Development (HUD) regulations and New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR) policies.
- Evaluate participant incomes, assets, and deductions in accordance with HUD and NYSHCR standards.
- Manage recertifications and documentation processes efficiently.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
- Handle a caseload of participants, providing necessary resources and referrals to financial counseling services.
- Collaborate with landlords to facilitate payment processes and address lease violations.
- Prepare documentation for informal hearings and maintain accurate records for reporting purposes.
Represent PathStone at relevant meetings and forums focused on housing services and community issues.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
- Housing Choice Voucher Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
- A minimum of two years of experience in human services, housing programs, or customer service is preferred.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal service programs is advantageous.
- Experience in non-profit organizations is desirable.
- Proficient in computer applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication skills, with bilingual abilities being a significant asset.
- Effective problem-solving skills to address various challenges.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Attention to detail to ensure accurate certifications and effective resolution of client inquiries.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
This position typically operates within a standard office environment with minimal exposure to external elements. Reliable transportation may be necessary for certain responsibilities.
