Housing Assistance Coordinator

Position Overview

This role is integral to the Housing Choice Voucher Program, aimed at supporting low-income individuals and families in obtaining sustainable and affordable housing solutions, thereby enhancing their quality of life and promoting self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with clients to assess and confirm their eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
  • Clearly communicate housing program guidelines and available services to participants.
  • Assist diverse populations, including those experiencing homelessness, individuals with disabilities, and single parents, in their quest for permanent housing.
  • Ensure compliance with program regulations and guidelines.
  • Interpret and apply Housing & Urban Development (HUD) regulations and New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR) policies.
  • Evaluate participant incomes, assets, and deductions in accordance with HUD and NYSHCR standards.
  • Manage recertifications and documentation processes efficiently.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Handle a caseload of participants, providing necessary resources and referrals to financial counseling services.
  • Collaborate with landlords to facilitate payment processes and address lease violations.
  • Prepare documentation for informal hearings and maintain accurate records for reporting purposes.
Additional Duties

Represent PathStone at relevant meetings and forums focused on housing services and community issues.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • Housing Choice Voucher Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in human services, housing programs, or customer service is preferred.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal service programs is advantageous.
  • Experience in non-profit organizations is desirable.

  • Proficient in computer applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills, with bilingual abilities being a significant asset.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to address various challenges.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate certifications and effective resolution of client inquiries.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
Work Environment

This position typically operates within a standard office environment with minimal exposure to external elements. Reliable transportation may be necessary for certain responsibilities.
