POSITION SUMMARY

The Physics Engineering Specialist will operate under general oversight, providing essential technical assistance within the Department of Physics. This role focuses on delivering engineering expertise and support, particularly in the realms of electronics engineering, which encompasses both analog and digital domains.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Engage in specific components of broader engineering challenges and intricate scientific research initiatives in experimental physics and instructional laboratories. Design and evaluate sophisticated instrumentation systems to facilitate research, analyze data, and oversee experimental processes. Collaborate closely with faculty principal investigators on projects in various physics disciplines.
  2. Develop both digital and analog electronic designs for research instruments, ensuring effective procurement and fabrication of necessary components through vendor interactions.
  3. Utilize advanced methods to adjust and correlate data, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure quality assurance in design and functionality of instruments and systems.
  4. Exercise sound judgment in selecting appropriate components and processes, serving as a liaison among project investigators, research assistants, and vendors to optimize project outcomes.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Perform other related tasks as assigned and collaborate with staff on technical issues related to equipment management and educational innovations.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not involve direct supervision of staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 0 to 2 years in a professional engineering capacity.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  1. Familiarity with concepts and practices in analog and digital circuit design, fabrication processes, and data acquisition techniques.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Proficient troubleshooting and quality assurance capabilities for current and future projects.

  5. Effective communication with vendors and technical personnel.
  6. Consistent attendance and professional interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted in a laboratory setting, with potential exposure to various hazards. Personal protective equipment will be provided to ensure safety.
