ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the general guidance of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant Lead will undertake various administrative responsibilities. Clinical tasks may involve recording vital signs, administering medications, and providing direct patient care as necessary, adhering to established protocols. Administrative duties may include orienting new medical assistants, addressing clinic inquiries, and implementing training programs for medical assistants. This role requires a National Certification from recognized certifying bodies such as the American Allied Health Association, National Center for Competency, or the National Health Career Association, along with verified Scribe training.

KEY FUNCTIONS OF THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT:

  • CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare patients by obtaining vital signs, confirming medications, and gathering relevant medical history.
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff as required.
  • Conduct EKGs and perform spirometry tests.
  • Administer oxygen and respiratory treatments as directed by the healthcare provider.
  • Conduct in-office laboratory tests and urine drug screenings.
  • Manage prescription refills and enter orders for medications and labs as instructed.
  • Engage in daily chart scrubbing and team huddles with providers.
  • Perform blood draws, injections, and immunizations, provided competency is verified.
  • Support procedures and non-complex wound care.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms.
  • Assist with patient scheduling for follow-ups as directed by the provider.
  • Train fellow staff within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain logs and perform additional duties as needed.
  • NON-CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adhere to attendance standards and safety policies.
  • Exhibit professionalism and dedication to the role and community.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

SCRIBE FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and comply with scribe policies and procedures.
  • Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in team huddles and ensure the completeness of patient charts.
  • Communicate any gaps in care to the clinician.

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the orientation and training of new medical assistants.
  • Collaborate with various departments to enhance patient care.
  • Track preventative and follow-up testing and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support the development of training programs and maintain equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of six months experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Completion of Scribe training in a clinical setting.
  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
