Position Overview:
The Tax Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating tax preparation tasks, which encompass the creation of tax schedules, conducting tax research, and managing sales and use tax returns for various affiliated entities across the US and Canada. This position serves as the primary liaison for outsourced tax consultants regarding corporate, partnership, shareholder, and trust income tax estimates and submissions. Additionally, the specialist will oversee the fixed asset management system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax filings in accordance with established deadlines.
- Manage fixed assets, including budgeting, tracking, and maintaining tax depreciation schedules.
- Conduct monthly Section 263a calculations and propose necessary adjustments.
- Compile supporting documentation for new state registrations, voluntary disclosures, and audits as required.
- Address inquiries from tax authorities and resolve any discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly HST/GST returns for the Canadian entity.
- Provide necessary schedules and information to ensure timely completion of various outsourced tax returns, including federal and state filings.
- Maintain a schedule of required annual reporting across multiple states.
- Review customer exemption certificates for validity.
- Verify the accuracy of use tax applications.
- Update and maintain tax tables within the ERP system.
- Conduct tax research and monitor changes in tax legislation, offering recommendations for tax planning and compliance.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements through automation or internal improvements.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in tax compliance and filing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in the O365 suite, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
- Experience with CSI/Syteline ERP and Avalara Tax is highly preferred.
ADA Physical/Mental/Workplace Requirements:
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to navigate a manufacturing facility with ease.
