Job Title: Medical Records Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Records Assistant to join our team at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Huntingdon. As a Medical Records Assistant, you will be responsible for preparing, classifying, and abstracting medical reports for SCI Huntingdon. Your duties will include creating medical records for individual inmates, filing medical reports in inmate medical records, compiling all inmate medical records for transfer, and assisting in medical data entry.

Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records for completeness and accuracy
  • Analyze information from cause of death reports and medical certification worksheets completed by health professionals
  • Determine compliance with practices, policies, and federal, state, or accreditation standards applicable to health care
  • Refer non-compliant, inadequate, or incomplete records to health care staff for corrections
  • Retrieve data from records and summarize findings
  • Enter or edit data electronically
  • Enter data into tracking logs for medical and demographic data

Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Pass a background investigation
