Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in the Ambulatory Cardiac department at The University of Kansas Health System. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through our healthcare setting, providing exceptional customer service, and contributing to patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule tests, obtain films and reports, and prepare laboratory specimens according to policy.
  • Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
  • Collaborate with members of the healthcare team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care.
  • Electronically submit, call, and/or fax prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  • Maintain medical records, ensure all required documentation is available, and distribute reports and correspondence.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stock assigned areas, and ensure par levels of supplies are maintained.
  • Perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification of tests, procedures, and medications, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and entering ambulatory care charges.
  • Perform simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician and as defined on the competency checklist.
  • Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures and document in medical records.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
  • Preferred: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA
Work Environment

This is a full-time position in a hospital setting.
