Student Center Support Specialist

About the Role:

The Student Center Support Specialist will serve as a key member of the support team, providing front-line service to students, staff, faculty, and all building users. This role will be responsible for routine custodial maintenance and care in various areas throughout Cornell's Student Centers, and/or other assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to students, staff, faculty, and all building users
  • Perform routine custodial maintenance and care in various areas throughout Cornell's Student Centers, and/or other assigned areas
  • Assist with event setups, including tables, chairs, equipment, and skirting
  • Provide basic audiovisual support, including troubleshooting and setup
  • Report key issues and complex audiovisual requests to support leads and ensure the overall execution of critical daily tasks

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant experience in a customer service field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Previous experience performing event setups and demonstrated proficiency in basic audiovisual support
  • Must be able to effectively read and write in English
  • Basic computer knowledge and troubleshooting experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NY State driver's license

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs. consistently throughout the shift moving tables, chairs, etc.
  • Able to operate necessary power equipment (i.e. floor machines, vacuums, buffers, etc.)
  • Able to climb an 8 ft. ladder
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures for extended periods
  • Must be free of debilitating dust allergies, or have the ability to manage such allergy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and previous experience working in a Student Center, Event Center, and/or Conference Center operation
