This role involves collaborating with a mentor to gain experience and proficiency in various positions within the body shop, including Body Technician, Prepper, Painter, and Buffer. Compliance with the procedures outlined in the Body Shop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate refinished body panels for accurate color matching and satisfactory finish quality, promptly reporting any quality concerns to management.
  • Prepare surfaces for buffing using appropriate sanding products and techniques as per SOP.
  • Restore refinished panels to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards utilizing provided rotary buffers and correct buffing methods.
  • Inspect unrefinished vehicle surfaces for overspray and remove as necessary.
  • Thoroughly clean all compound or polish residues from buffed panels and assess for acceptable finish quality.
  • Review all repaired and primed panels to ensure complete and proper body repairs and primer application as defined in SOP.
  • Mask and protect adjacent panels from scratches or damage prior to final sanding.
  • Prepare properly repaired and primed panels for final finish application using specified abrasives and tools.
  • Avoid over-sanding or under-sanding refinished panels to ensure quality.
  • Ensure all dust and particles are removed from repair/refinish panels before transitioning vehicles to the next stage.
  • Verify vehicle and repairs to be conducted using repair orders or tracking labels before commencing work.
  • Execute all body panel repairs as directed by management.
  • Adhere to repair protocols as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Replace damaged panels or body components as instructed.
  • Handle, apply, and dispose of surface coatings in accordance with SOP and relevant regulations.
  • Complete all repairs to meet customer expectations for quality.
  • Ensure all refinishing products are accurately formulated to achieve color match and finish texture expectations.
  • Mix only the necessary amount of refinishing products to minimize waste.
  • Apply refinishing coatings using approved HVLP spray equipment set to recommended pressure.
  • Conduct all paint application in designated, properly ventilated areas as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in paint areas and ensure proper storage of refinishing products.
  • Keep all paint formulation and application equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety by adhering to all health and safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Interest in the mechanical field.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record required.
  • Ability to operate vehicles with both standard and automatic transmissions.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 1-15 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for repetitive motion tasks.
  • Vision capabilities required include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
