Responsibilities:


The Evening Transportation Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transit of passengers and materials across NYIT campuses and designated routes.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Safely operating a large passenger bus to transport individuals and materials, primarily between NYIT's Long Island campus and designated residence facilities.
  • Conducting thorough pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle readiness, including checks on lights, brakes, and tires.
  • Monitoring vehicle performance and refueling as necessary.
  • Overseeing the loading and unloading of passengers and their belongings.
  • Maintaining accurate records of trips, passenger counts, and inventory.
  • Providing assistance to passengers with disabilities as needed.
  • Utilizing communication tools to coordinate with dispatch.
  • Documenting vehicle mileage and reporting any maintenance issues to supervisors.
  • Performing basic maintenance tasks during emergencies, such as changing bulbs or inflating tires.
  • Transporting vehicles to repair facilities when required.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A valid CDL Class B license with Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements.
  • The ability to obtain 19A certification as mandated by New York State DMV.
  • A clean driving record free from major violations.
  • Compliance with drug and alcohol testing requirements as per Federal Highway Administration regulations.
  • Skills in performing minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • The capacity to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
