Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician II to join our team at the University of Rochester. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for the pre-analytical processing of patient specimens, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of test results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample Management
    • Receive and prioritize specimens from inpatient and outpatient locations, ensuring timely processing and analysis.
    • Verify receipt of specimens and track batches, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
    • Prepare specimens for transport to specialized areas of testing, adhering to laboratory storage guidelines.
  • Patient Registration and Specimen Log-in
    • Register patient information into the Hospital Information System, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
    • Identify and register patient billing information, adhering to laboratory policies and procedures.
    • Log-in laboratory procedure codes, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
  • Administrative Support
    • Provide excellent customer service, answering telephone calls and responding to inquiries regarding test results, testing/specimen requirements, and other technical information.
    • Assist with troubleshooting problem specimens and clarify correct test selection, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
  • Lab (Technical) Support
    • Assist technologists in the pre-analytical processing of select tests, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
    • Work with a variety of health care providers to troubleshoot out-of-range conditions, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills, with ability to rotate shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain a friendly and courteous professional manner at all times, interacting effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers.
