The State of South Carolina is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Highway Maintenance Worker I. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance activities on the state highway system, including construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the performance of maintenance activities, including clearing right-of-way, installing and repairing signs, and performing vegetation management.
- Operate standard motorized equipment, such as dump trucks and flatbed trucks, to haul materials and supplies.
- Conduct pre-trip equipment and vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance with departmental rules and regulations.
- Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations and support on-call personnel as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods and work in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
