POSITION OVERVIEW AND REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Campus Recreation is looking for enthusiastic individuals to take on the role of Program Instructor at Stone Valley Recreation Area.
Program Instructors are tasked with delivering engaging outdoor recreation experiences; welcoming visitors and providing outstanding customer service. Responsibilities include conducting outdoor recreation programs such as paddling lessons, guided hikes, and various other activities. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills, ensure the upkeep of program equipment, and participate in monthly staff meetings. Instructors may also have the opportunity to create new programs for participants. A collaborative spirit is essential, as is the willingness to cover or swap shifts when needed. Work hours are flexible, including days, evenings, and weekends. CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required or must be obtained within one month of hire. Training sessions are regularly provided through Campus Recreation. Successful completion of the Paddle Sports Safety Course is mandatory for all staff involved in paddle sport programs. Candidates must be able to secure the following three publicly available clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and FBI Criminal Background Check. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation is necessary. Access to reliable transportation is required. Most positions are seasonal, with primary hours available from mid-March through mid-November. Preference will be given to Penn State University students, and work schedules will be tailored around class commitments.
Campus Recreation, a division of Student Affairs, offers fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through various facilities, including the Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the expansive Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center with multiple courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatic Programs, Fitness and Wellbeing Programs, Club Sports, and Intramural Sports.
This position requires the following three publicly available clearances:
- PA State Police Criminal Background Check
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
- FBI Criminal Background Check
CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:
In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, Penn State publishes an Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). This report includes crime statistics and institutional policies related to campus security, including those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other relevant matters. The ASR is available for review online.
