Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Blood Component Specialist to join our team at RWJBarnabas Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for determining the suitability of whole blood and apheresis blood component donors and patients according to established standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine the suitability of whole blood and apheresis blood component donors and patients according to established standards.
  • Collect blood components and therapeutic products from suitable donors and patients using automated and non-automated procedures.
  • Possess knowledge of blood collection theory and practice in order to diagnose, educate and treat donor, patient, and staff responses to actual or potential problems.
  • Provide medical screening of stem cell donors and patients.
  • Handle patient and blood donor reactions.

Requirements:

  • Registered nurse with New Jersey licensure.
  • Phlebotomy or IV certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum 3 years R.N. licensure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Apheresis and/or automated medical instrumentation expertise desirable.
  • Background in whole blood separation techniques helpful.
