Blood Bank Medical Technologist Job Summary

The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre-analytical and post-analytical compatibility tests using automated and non-automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a BS degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Scientist with training in Blood Bank and be able to maintain inventory of supplies, reagents and blood products, as well as non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, cell washers and centrifuges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performs all testing as per standard operating procedures
• Performs bench work in all trained areas
• Ability to keep up with and maintain desired turn-around times
• Serves as a resource person for technical questions and problem resolution
• Troubleshoots problem specimens and interacts with medical staff and hospital staff, as necessary

Qualifications:

• BS degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Scientist with training in Blood Bank
• National Certification preferred

Work Environment:

The Blood Bank Medical Technologist will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with a team of medical professionals. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
