Job Summary

The Building Substitute serves as a substitute teacher when a classroom teacher is not available and may cover for multiple teachers during a given day. When not working as a substitute teacher, the Building Substitute supports the Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum and Instruction
    • Deliver high-quality instruction to students in the absence of a regular teacher.
    • Collaborate with other educators to improve instructional and assessment practices.
    • Share best practices with colleagues to enhance student learning.
  • Culture
    • Support Emerald Charter Schools' mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies towards students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
    • Lead a classroom culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students.
    • Maintain a well-organized, attractive, and safe classroom environment.
    • Interact frequently and respectfully with students.
  • Internal Operations
    • Support the Directors as requested, when not working as a substitute teacher.
    • Perform other duties as regular staff, including arrival, dismissal, and lunch duty.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Tennessee Teacher License preferred
  • Teaching experience in urban education preferred
  • Highly qualified in content area and/or grade level
  • Uses data to drive instruction
  • Highly organized
  • Has the work ethic and desire to go above and beyond
  • Respected presence and ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
