Reporting to the Foreman, this role involves operating a vacuum excavation truck utilized in utility construction projects. Additionally, you will engage in various general labor tasks as required at the job site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely and efficiently operate a vacuum excavation truck.
- Assist in the upkeep of on-site machinery.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Perform hand digging to identify utility lines.
- Keep daily inspection and graph logs updated.
- Load and unload equipment from trailers.
- Excavate around utilities as needed.
- Be knowledgeable about all utilities and obstacles in the work area.
- Handle loading and unloading of supplies.
- Conduct ground restoration activities.
- Carry out general cleanup tasks.
- Document DOT paperwork accurately when required.
- Provide precise daily timekeeping records.
- Participate in weekly safety meetings.
- Fulfill laborer duties as necessary.
- Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior experience operating a vacuum excavation truck is essential.
- Experience working near digging and trenching equipment, with an understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
- Ability to follow directions effectively.
- Basic proficiency in using hand tools.
- Capability to read and comprehend work orders, safety protocols, and operational instructions.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record - Unrestricted Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is mandatory.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- High regard for safety practices.
- Effective communication skills with crew members, clients, and suppliers.
- Willingness to work overtime, including evenings, weekends, or be on emergency call as necessary.
- In-state travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in construction or utility construction is advantageous.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret utility maps to identify underground utilities.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb in and out of various equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.).
- Must regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs with or without assistance.
- This position requires standing, crouching, sitting, bending, and using hands and fingers for various tasks.
- Must be able to work while wearing safety gear including boots, glasses, and hard hats.
- Remote work may involve extended periods of driving and sitting.
- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
- Specific vision capabilities are necessary for this role, including close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, or other airborne substances may occur.
