Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at Advocate Health. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including electrical generators, fire alarm and suppression systems, medical air, vacuum, and medical gas systems, and pneumatic tube systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including electrical generators, fire alarm and suppression systems, medical air, vacuum, and medical gas systems, and pneumatic tube systems.
  • Perform equipment rounds to ensure all equipment is operating properly and investigate any abnormalities.
  • Document all findings and actions taken in the computerized maintenance system.
  • Maintain proper security of equipment rooms while on duty.
  • Respond to emergencies, including fires, equipment failures, and disruptions of utilities, and execute emergency procedures in a timely and safe manner.
  • Operate and monitor emergency generators and associated automatic transfer switches as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical generators, electrical systems, and equipment, including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding, or replacing parts/components.
  • Document all actions taken in the computerized maintenance management system and log books.
  • Complete assigned PMs by established deadlines.
  • Report problems that cannot be resolved during PM inspections using the computerized maintenance management system and log book as appropriate.
  • Report significant problems to the Lead Electrician or Manager in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Clean and, if appropriate, paint assigned equipment and electrical rooms to maintain a safe and professional appearance of those work spaces.
  • Perform equipment repairs and/or installations or replacements as assigned or as required by the situation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment, tube system, med gas, fire alarm, and suppression system problems or failures to determine and repair the cause of the failure in a timely manner.
  • Execute repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care.
  • Respond to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Document actions taken in the computerized maintenance management system and log books.
  • Follow proper safety and infection control procedures.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent plus trade school or apprenticeship training.
  • Three years maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and installing electrical/mechanical equipment and systems and associated equipment in a medical center, large campus, or industrial setting.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems from low voltage to 4160 Volt systems, emergency generators, and transfer switches.
  • Current State of Illinois driver's license.
  • IMSA Fire Alarm Level 1 Certification or equivalent within 1 year.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays, in a fast-paced environment with physical demands. The ability to work in extreme heat and temperature variations, confined spaces, and to move, climb, bend, reach, push, and pull as related to job activities is required. The ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and to use patient handling equipment for patient lifts over 35 pounds is also required.
