Job Summary and Purpose

The AOD Support Staff II, Registered - MC provides essential services to beneficiaries participating in treatment while ensuring the safety and security of the program premises. This role involves participating in group counseling sessions, crisis management, and monitoring clients' self-administration of prescribed medication.

Key Responsibilities
  • AOD Counseling:
    • Under the guidance of a certified AOD Counselor, the Support Staff II learns alcohol and drug counseling functions, including screening, assessment, and intake.
    • Collaborates with case managers and therapists to assist treatment and other plans.
    • Completes discharge and transition plans and maintains required Electronic Health Records (EHR).
    • Monitors client self-administration of prescribed medication and keeps required treatment records and shift reports.
  • Program Security:
    • Ensures the safety and security of the program premises by monitoring entrance and exit points, searching participants' belongings, and reporting any suspicious activity.
    • Monitors premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensures security of the program.
  • Program Safety:
    • Observes program premises to ensure safe operations and reports any spills, unsafe working conditions, or defective equipment.
    • Knows the location of fire exits and is prepared to assist participants in case of an emergency.
  • Asset Protection:
    • Protects the program's assets by reporting any suspicious events to the direct supervisor.
    • Completes written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities.
  • Client/Participant Support:
    • Answers telephones and takes messages for clients and staff.
    • Maintains office housekeeping and verifies common areas, laundry areas, and restrooms are clean and disinfected.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, especially during evenings and weekends as required.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Registered and in good standing in an Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certification program by an approved accrediting organization.
  • Completed statutory AOD coursework requirements.
  • 1 year of experience in mental health or substance abuse treatment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AA or higher degree in a related field.
  • Completed modules 1 and 2 of ASAM.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English (written and verbal).
  • Understanding of harm reduction (non-abstinence) approach with participant substance use.
