Position Overview:
This role is classified as a trainee position, leading to the full-fledged role of Police Officer. A Police Officer Trainee is a civilian role that occurs prior to and during enrollment in a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified police academy, which typically spans around six months.

Key Responsibilities:
Upon successful completion of the POST academy and the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees will be sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer. Duties may encompass various law enforcement tasks, including:
  • Patrolling designated areas
  • Traffic management
  • Conducting criminal and juvenile investigations
  • Engaging in radio communications

These responsibilities necessitate operating a patrol vehicle or motorcycle, apprehending and citing law violators, documenting incidents, executing warrants, testifying in judicial proceedings, and providing information to the community.

To excel in this position, candidates should demonstrate the ability to:
  • Complete academy requirements successfully
  • Accurately observe and recall names, faces, incidents, and locations
  • React swiftly and effectively in emergencies
  • Comprehend and interpret laws and regulations

Qualifications:

  • License: Valid Class C California Driver's License

Special Requirements:
Applicants must be free of felony convictions, legally authorized to work in the United States, at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment, and must meet all medical, physical, and psychological standards set by the department.
