POSITION OVERVIEW
Warren Transport, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records that reflect the organization's financial status.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts comprehensive cost accounting and related tasks for the organization.
- Generates monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss reports.
- Handles daily contractor settlements and accurately posts accounts payable and invoices into the general ledger.
- Prepares detailed reports on maintenance expenditures, analyzing data and presenting findings on a weekly basis.
- Performs monthly bank reconciliations, verifies deposits, and addresses any inquiries from banking institutions.
- Reconciles various financial accounts, including cash disbursements, payroll, and customer accounts, while managing accounts receivable collections.
- Ensures timely payment of invoices related to accounts payable and verifies that charges are allocated to the correct accounts.
- Assists external auditors by providing necessary account information and documentation for the annual audit process.
- Files tax documents with federal, state, and local authorities.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and practices.
- Undertakes additional duties as assigned.
- This position may require occasional work outside standard business hours and infrequent travel.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of general financial and cost accounting principles.
- Analytical mindset with the capability to effectively communicate with colleagues outside the finance department.
- Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to accurately prepare month-end documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
- Demonstrates a proactive commitment to the corporate values and success of all team members.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is based in a professional office setting. The role typically involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The physical demands of this role include regular communication and a primarily sedentary work environment, with some filing tasks that may require lifting files and accessing filing cabinets.
