POSITION SUMMARY


The GIS and Cartography Support Specialist is responsible for executing a variety of administrative functions related to mapping and geographic data management. This role involves processing post-mapping production tasks, entering parcel details into the County's Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system, preparing revision documentation, and reviewing assessment modifications. Additionally, the specialist will track recorded documents that influence mapping and assessment activities.

This position also includes various supportive tasks for the Mapping department and the Board of Assessment, such as map preparation, parcel data editing, and maintaining production files, all aimed at enhancing departmental efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Execute parcel splits and combinations within the CAMA system for the Board of Assessment Appeals;
2. Prepare and review revision documentation;
3. Finalize and distribute completed assessment packets to relevant personnel, ensuring timely delivery;
4. Submit revisions promptly for parcel valuations and modifications;
5. Verify assessor changes in revision documents, ensuring accuracy against original valuations;
6. Ensure the precision of all parcel-related data, including ownership, assessment, and land use codes;
7. Systematically manage mapping production records, including declarations and amendments;
8. Provide timely reminders to mappers regarding project timelines;
9. Conduct regular meetings with the GIS Coordinator to discuss ongoing projects and align departmental goals;
10. Address inquiries from assessors regarding subdivisions and property records, providing accurate information;
11. Assist in map preparation and editing using ESRI ArcGIS Pro;
12. Report discrepancies to the GIS Coordinator;
13. Review and update production logs regularly;
14. Conduct research on parcel information and discrepancies;
15. Organize and maintain production files effectively;
16. Communicate with the Registry Department regarding transfers and registered documents;
17. Assist the public in the Map Room as necessary.

The GIS and Cartography Support Specialist may undertake additional duties as required to support the Mapping Department and the Board of Assessment.


QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree or higher preferred;
- GIS/Cartography certification or related program preferred;
- General knowledge of GIS and mapping preferred;

- High school diploma with three years of experience in parcel data management or a combination of education and experience in related fields.

Experience in reading recorded documents and legal descriptions is preferred;
Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and Microsoft Office Suite is essential;
Strong computing skills and attention to detail are required;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members;
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively;
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary.
