Job Summary

This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The Surface Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, performing maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoots and repairs complex mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake adjustments.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical and electronic systems, including circuit boards and sensors.
  • Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, and makes repairs and overhauls as necessary.
  • Reassembles engines and other systems, and adjusts, tests, and reinstalls in vehicles and equipment as necessary.
  • Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower-grade employees within the team.
  • Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor.
Requirements
  • National Guard membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The Surface Maintenance Mechanic must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment and tools, and work in a variety of weather conditions.

Security Clearance

The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional education or training in a related field may be preferred.
