Position Overview

Organization: Sutter Health

Role Summary: The Registered EEG Technician is responsible for conducting non-invasive neurophysiological assessments under minimal supervision, adhering to physician directives and historical data. Responsibilities encompass inpatient EEG evaluations across various hospital departments, including specialized units such as the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and intensive care unit (ICU), as well as outpatient assessments that involve routine and ambulatory EEGs. The technician may also provide support during staff breaks at the monitoring station and is expected to work with patients of all ages.

Qualifications:

Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.

Certification & Licensure:
BLS - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification is mandatory.
Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist II certification is preferred.
REEGT - Registered Electroencephalographic/Neurodiagnostic Technologist certification is required for EEG performance.

Skills and Expertise:
• Comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the neurological system.
• Proficient in electro-neurologic testing and operation of related equipment.
• Experience in acute care environments, performing EEG procedures on patients across all age groups.
• Familiarity with accreditation standards set by The Joint Commission (TJC).
• Strong critical thinking abilities, decisive judgment, and capacity to operate with minimal oversight.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations.
• Proficient in English, both written and verbal communication skills.
• Typing speed of at least 55 words per minute.
• Capability to manage strong odors (e.g., collodion, acetone, bleach).
• Competence in assisting patients with special needs or altered consciousness levels.
• Team-oriented with effective communication skills across shifts.
• Patience and dexterity in managing electrode wires and maintaining equipment organization.
• Professional demeanor when interacting with diverse personalities.
• Knowledge of 10/20 electrode placement and accurate lead attachment.
• Adherence to standard precautions as per hospital policies.
• Maintenance of EEG/Electrophysiology (EP) equipment in optimal condition.
• Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining accuracy.

Work Schedule:
Varied shifts, Per Diem/Casual, with hours dependent on departmental needs.

Compensation:
Pay range for this position is $46.14 to $57.67 per hour. Registered EEG Technician pay range is $61.16 to $76.44 per hour. Compensation may vary based on experience, education, skills, and other relevant factors.
