Job Summary:

The Special Education Aide will assist students with disabilities under the direction of a certified teacher, providing support in academic, social, and behavioral areas. This role requires a strong commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, promoting dignity and respect for all students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with disabilities in academic and daily living tasks, such as eating, mobility, communication, and toileting.
  • Support students with test-taking and assessment administration.
  • Provide physical management and crisis intervention as needed, following school-approved procedures.
  • Collect data on student progress and report concerns to teachers and administrators.
  • Escort and supervise students to and from various school facilities and areas.
  • Collaborate with special education, general education, and related service staff to create a positive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or higher, or at least two years of post-secondary education equivalent to 48 credit hours.
  • Experience working with children, especially students with disabilities, in areas such as Autism, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Emotional Disabilities.
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents, express ideas clearly in written and oral communication, and work as a team member.
Working Conditions:

The Special Education Aide will work in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and pushing a wheelchair, as well as occasional lifting and positioning of students. The aide may be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens, and may receive unintentional injuries from aggressive students.
