About the Opportunity

This role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of academic and dormitory buildings at Northeastern University. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team to perform a variety of duties, including cleaning, repairing, and maintaining facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vacuuming and dusting of offices, classrooms, and common areas
  • Washing walls, furniture, glass, and partitions
  • Replacing light bulbs and emptying recycling bins and trash
  • Servicing restrooms by filling soap, paper towel, and toilet paper dispensers
  • Mopping up water, leaks, and spills
  • Unplugging sinks and unclogging toilets
  • Opening and closing buildings and keeping entryways accessible
  • Sweeping debris off stairs and sidewalks and shoveling snow and applying ice melt
  • Putting away delivered stock items in the stockroom
  • Assisting with setting up staging, tables, and chairs for university functions
  • Moving and setting up furniture
  • Performing other related duties as required or directed

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license for the state of residence and DOT certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively with workers, supervisors, and directors
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including frequent lifting, carrying, and transporting loads up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off of ladders, and staging
  • Ability to respond to overtime needs beyond the normal workday
  • Mandatory overtime, inclusive of weekends, as required or requested by the Director of Building Services
  • Ability to follow prescribed safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to follow directions
