Key Responsibilities- Administrative and Technical Supervision: 30% of time
- Sample Processing: 25% of time
- Telephone Coverage and Results Reporting: 25% of time
- Shipping Biological Samples: 5% of time
- Laboratory Support/Backup in Media Preparation: 5% of time
- Animal Care/Handling/Maintenance of Animal Holding Facility: 5% of time
- Experience with Sample and Data Management Skills: The successful candidate will have experience with sample and data management skills, including cataloging and filing of information, following protocols regarding sample storage, and learning computer programs designed for sample tracking, worksheet production, and workload reporting.
- Working Knowledge of Diagnostic Procedures: The candidate will have a working knowledge of diagnostic procedures and tests used in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory, including knowledge of biological and environmental samples for a variety of microbiologic, immunologic, biotechnology, histologic, and clinical chemistry tests.
- Knowledge of Animal Diseases: The successful candidate will have knowledge of animal diseases, sample selection, and types of testing performed in bacteriology, immunology, virology, toxicology, biotechnology, clinical pathology related to animal diseases.
- Effective Communication Skills: The candidate will be able to effectively communicate with veterinary practitioners, owners, state and federal veterinarians/officials utilizing a broad working knowledge of veterinary medicine, food animal husbandry, and the skills to provide test results from information in the computerized CAHFS Laboratory Information System.
- Regulatory Knowledge: The successful candidate will have knowledge of regulations for intra and interstate transport/shipping of biohazardous materials to and from clinics and other laboratories.
- Comprehensive Knowledge of Veterinary Diagnostic Testing: The candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of veterinary diagnostic testing performed within the University of California, including genetics, clinical endocrinology, clinical chemistry, and hematology.
- Familiarity with University of California Purchasing Policies: The successful candidate will be familiar with University of California purchasing policies, procedures, and forms.
