Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Animal Technician to join our team at the University of California-Davis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing animal care and technical support activities, including routine animal care, animal laboratory technical procedures, and colony operations support related to indoor colony preventative health management.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory animal care and technical procedures, with experience working with nonhuman primates. They will be responsible for providing project animal care technical support services and study support services to research Principal Investigators, including performing technical laboratory animal procedures requiring various levels of biohazard containment.

The Animal Technician will work under minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards governing animal research, and all safety procedures according to NIH standards and standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide animal care and technical support activities, including routine animal care and animal laboratory technical procedures.
  • Support colony operations, including indoor colony preventative health management.
  • Provide project animal care technical support services and study support services to research Principal Investigators.
  • Perform technical laboratory animal procedures requiring various levels of biohazard containment.
Requirements
  • Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with nonhuman primates, including experience conditioning and training non-human primates, capture and physical restraint, and technical experience administering IM injections, dosing, and performing venipuncture.
  • Journey-level knowledge and experience as an animal technician in biohazard containment procedures under BioSafety Level (BSL) 2 or 3 facility.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards governing animal research, and all safety procedures according to NIH standards and standard operating procedures.
