Position Overview

The City of Rohnert Park is seeking to fill one (1) Accounting Technician I/II position. This role is essential in delivering exceptional customer service while assisting the public with various financial processes, including Utility Billing, Business Licenses, Collections, and Animal Licensing. The position will be filled at either the I or II level, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Job Responsibilities

Under direct or general supervision, the incumbent will perform a range of routine to complex technical and administrative accounting support tasks. Responsibilities include:
  • Preparation, maintenance, and processing of accounting records and transactions.
  • Management of accounts payable and receivable.
  • Utility billing and business licensing.
  • Balancing and maintaining both manual and computerized financial records.
  • Contract administration and related duties as assigned.

Supervision

The role receives direct or general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel and does not exercise direct supervision over staff.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Accounting Technician I level, candidates should possess:
  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Six (6) semester units or eight (8) quarter units of college coursework in bookkeeping or accounting.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience.

For the Accounting Technician II level, candidates should have:
  • An associate degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience equivalent to Accounting Technician I.

Skills and Abilities

Ideal candidates will demonstrate proficiency in:
  • Financial document processing and record-keeping.
  • Business arithmetic and statistical techniques.
  • Providing high levels of customer service.
  • Utilizing modern office equipment and software.

In this role, you will be expected to maintain a respectful and collaborative working environment, communicate effectively, and perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Additional Information

This position is primarily sedentary but may require occasional standing, walking, or driving between work areas. The work environment is an office setting with moderate noise levels and controlled temperature conditions.
