Overview:


The Cargo Operations Specialist is tasked with the responsibility of securing, loading, and unloading various types of cargo from vessels and/or trains, including containers, bulk materials, breakbulk items, oil barrels, and other freight, ensuring that all operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

Candidate Requirements:
Minimum of one year of experience in customer service.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (Spanish proficiency is advantageous).

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Must hold a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

Reliable transportation to and from the workplace.

Ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Willingness to travel as required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is conducted entirely outdoors.

Candidates will encounter various weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold, on a daily basis. Occasional work in confined spaces (such as warehouses or vessel hatches) may be required.

Must be capable of walking, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders up to 100 feet high, with quick physical reactions (such as jumping or moving).

Ability to work in a noisy environment is essential.

Responsibilities:

Position Summary:


The Cargo Operations Specialist is responsible for the secure loading and unloading of cargo from vessels and/or trains, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and efficiently.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
Reports directly to the Gang Foreman.

Prior experience in cargo operations is preferred.

Work is conducted outdoors at the terminal.

Effective communication is required, either verbally or through hand signals.


May provide instructions to Yard Hustler Drivers regarding the specific positioning of equipment to facilitate the loading or unloading of containers.

Communication via handheld radio may be necessary.

May be required to handle tools and lashing materials.


Responsibilities may include engaging and disengaging automatic locks (weighing 13 lbs.) that secure containers during transport.


May involve placing or removing dunnage, including but not limited to materials under blades, buckets, or other attachments resting on the transport surface.

Must maintain a safe distance from moving tracks and attached equipment.

May utilize a push broom to clear discarded materials to designated areas.

May be responsible for placing ISO fittings.

May be required to hook and unhook lifting gear.
