About the Organization

The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) collaborates with Latinx communities and all communities of color to combat gender-based violence. Established as a grassroots initiative addressing intimate partner violence and sexual assault, VIP prioritizes survivors in its leadership and strives to create a workforce that mirrors the diverse national, ethnic, and racial backgrounds of the communities it serves. VIP operates multiple non-residential social service programs, residential shelter and housing initiatives, specialized programs, a bilingual helpline, and a dedicated community engagement team.

Role Summary

The Restorative Justice Program at VIP is among the pioneering restorative justice initiatives within a domestic violence agency. This program engages directly with survivors of domestic violence and those who have caused harm, aiming to foster responses that facilitate healing and transformation. The program is committed to developing innovative methods for the recovery of survivors, their families, and communities.

The Restorative Justice Facilitator is a dynamic and empathetic individual dedicated to exploring alternative methods for community healing and restoration among families affected by domestic violence. Reporting directly to the Restorative Justice Manager, the Facilitator is responsible for outreach and leading various community-building and restorative circles designed to support Latinx survivors, families, and the broader community. The ideal candidate is an attentive listener and effective communicator who approaches conflict as a chance for growth and transformation. This role requires a person who is approachable and collaborates closely with the Restorative Justice Manager to deliver culturally sensitive restorative practices to diverse groups.

Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Service and Facilitation:
  • Lead community-building and restorative circles with clients, family members, and staff.
  • Assist the Restorative Justice Manager in facilitating restorative justice processes for cases of interpersonal harm.
  • Conduct outreach, scheduling, and intake interviews with clients and necessary parties.
  • Prepare clients for restorative processes through preparatory sessions.
  • Provide clients with documentation of program completion and relevant resources.
  • Organize and engage in community meetings/events to promote the program.
  • Maintain communication with referral sources and community partners to ensure positive case outcomes.
  • Offer 1:1 consultations for emotional support, safety planning, and referrals.
  • Participate in relationship building and training of community volunteers for restorative programming.
Program Development and Planning:
  • Support the Manager in creating and updating program materials and training resources based on feedback.
  • Engage in strategic planning to address systemic issues affecting clients.
  • Attend ongoing training in restorative justice and circle practices.
Administrative Duties:
  • Assess program effectiveness to uphold high service standards.
  • Maintain accurate data for reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance and Compliance Director to ensure timely grant report submissions.
  • Work with the Development Department to provide necessary programmatic data for grant applications.
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Experience and enthusiasm for group facilitation preferred.
  • Familiarity with restorative justice principles required.
  • Minimum of one year of circle practice experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining flexibility.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, particularly Latinx and low-income populations, with cultural humility.
  • Good judgment and sensitivity in all interactions.
  • Commitment to confidentiality for agency, program, and client information.
  • Team-oriented with self-awareness and accountability.
  • Passion for intersectional social justice issues affecting trauma survivors.
