Medical Laboratory Specialist

As a Medical Technologist at CARTI, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and monitoring of various disease states by performing diagnostic testing on patient samples. You will follow standardized procedures, prepare samples for testing, and analyze test results for accuracy and critical limits.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform, verify, and report laboratory tests in assigned areas, adhering to policy and procedure manuals.
- Analyze blood cells using microscopic techniques and procedures.
- Ensure the operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating, completing preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needed supplies, and expediting orders.
- Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently.
- Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
- Maintain inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect the organization by keeping information confidential.
- Adhere to quality control policies and procedures, and assist in quality assurance.
- Perform tasks in an organized and efficient manner, maintaining a clean area and orderly documentation.
- Investigate abnormal or unexpected test results prior to reporting patient testing.
- Communicate test results and concepts to fellow employees, other personnel, and physicians with clarity and confidentiality.
- Demonstrate procedural performance to new personnel, both in theory and technical related areas.
- Prepare and assist in technical inservices.
- Follow stringent safety guidelines, including the use of potentially harmful infectious agents, and enforce universal precautions.
- Participate in proficiency testing as assigned.
- Be responsible for all phases of patient testing, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical.
- Graduation from a four-year college or university, plus one year internship in an accredited school of Medical Technology.
- Registration as a Medical Technologist through ASCP, NCA, or AMT, to be obtained within one year of hire.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to multi-task effectively.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
- Ability to be flexible and do what is necessary to get the job done right in a timely manner.
This position involves potential exposure to infectious diseases. Colleagues are offered appropriate vaccinations and safety training.
