Position Overview

The Buyer role at Bowhead is integral to our Purchasing Department. We are seeking a knowledgeable individual in procurement processes who can maintain robust relationships with key suppliers, confirm shipping timelines, and oversee open purchase orders. This position is focused on acquiring materials from vendors at the most competitive prices while ensuring quality, reliability, and urgency are prioritized.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Expertise in Materials Management (Purchasing & Inventory) within a procurement context.
  • Vendor Sourcing and Evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Mobile Communication Devices and Services.
  • Coordination with shipping providers such as FedEx and UPS.
  • Negotiation of Supplier Terms and Conditions, including pricing.
  • Preparation of Request for Quote (RFQ) documents.
  • Understanding and managing Quality Deficiency Reports and Non-Cancel/Non-return Orders.
  • Compiling data and documentation to create purchase orders.
  • Verification of specifications for purchase requests.
  • Expediting orders as necessary.
  • Evaluating bids and selecting appropriate suppliers.
  • Providing associate-level support for general business or technical tasks.
  • Maintaining the SharePoint site.
  • Coordinating the collection and preparation of reports.
  • Reviewing and responding to correspondence.
  • Performing all other duties related to the position as assigned.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in government contract procurement, purchasing, or buying. A working knowledge of Deltek Costpoint is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Department of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFAR).
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of the organization and with external contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and sound judgment, capable of working independently or collaboratively.

Physical Demands:

Candidates must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and perform twisting, bending, and squatting movements as needed.

Clearance Requirements:

Currently, there are no security clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must successfully pass a background check. US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
