Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Substitute Bus Operator, your primary duties will include:
- Safely driving a school bus as a temporary operator, adhering to established schedules for transporting students to various locations.
- Overseeing the boarding and disembarking of students, ensuring safety protocols are followed, including the use of seat belts.
- Maintaining discipline among passengers, effectively managing conflicts and documenting any serious behavioral issues.
- Conducting investigations in the event of accidents and reporting findings as necessary.
- Ensuring the bus is maintained in a clean and safe condition, promptly addressing mechanical concerns and performing routine upkeep.
- Collaborating with parents and school staff to create efficient student drop-off and pick-up schedules, adjusting routes as needed.
- Following designated routing and scheduling, regularly reviewing bus stop locations for safety and efficiency.
- Monitoring students with specific health needs, adhering to established procedures to ensure their safety during transit.
- Maintaining open lines of communication with supervisors regarding any issues or concerns that arise.
- Keeping detailed records of mileage, routing, maintenance, and schedules.
- Representing the school positively at meetings and training sessions as required.
- Contributing to the development of transportation policies and procedures, promoting high standards of service.
- Assisting with other routes during emergencies or special circumstances as assigned.
- Providing input on student conduct issues to the Transportation Coordinator or school leadership and performing additional duties as directed.
The goal of the Substitute Bus Operator is to guarantee the safe and timely transportation of students, following established routes and schedules. QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Compliance with all regulations set by the Department of Transportation and relevant educational authorities.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with necessary endorsements.
