Surgical Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team at the Surgery Center of Fairbanks. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our ambulatory surgery center.
Responsibilities- Participate as a team member in support of the total perioperative process
- Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
- Supervise and direct patient care in a single operating room
- Organize nursing activities efficiently and effectively
- Delegate activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members
- Consider cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time
- Assist with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability
- Address patient needs during admission to the operating room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting
- Transport patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs
- Identify the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicate such information to all members of the surgical team
- Review patients' medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members
- Provide comfort and reassurance to patient
- Maintain patients' privacy and dignity
- Explain intraoperative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient
- Perform the circulating nurse's role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures
- Prepare operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed
- Assemble and provide properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure
- Anticipate needs of surgical team and assist anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia
- Assist with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures
- Monitor compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards
- Assist with identification and confirmation of operative site
- Provide for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters
- Provide continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly
- Respond in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and the physician
- Accurately comprehend and interpret verbal orders/directions
- Document patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures
- Accurately advise others responsible for care of the patient about patient's status
- High school graduate or GED certificate recipient
- Graduate of accredited school in nursing
- RN with active Alaska license
- CPR certified
- Leadership qualities
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
