Position Overview
This role is eligible for the UNC Hospitals Surgical Technologist Incentive Program, which includes a commitment incentive and an employee referral program.
UNC Health Care is in search of a skilled Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 3 years of experience to support our Operating Room team. This position is vital to our multi-specialty facility, which is dedicated to providing high-quality surgical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a sterile environment and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Prepare the Operating Room with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist in surgical procedures by passing instruments and performing counts accurately.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of surgical instruments and techniques.
- Support a diverse patient population, from infants to seniors, with professionalism and care.
- Act as a mentor to new staff and assist in training less experienced Surgical Technologists.
- Participate in Sterile Processing as required to ensure the availability of sterilized instruments.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing program is preferred.
- Military training in Surgical Technology may be considered.
Licensure/Certification:
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in an Operating Room setting is required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of anatomy and surgical procedures to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a dynamic surgical environment, requiring flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing situations. The Surgical Technologist will work full-time hours, Monday through Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
