About DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL): DMCUL is a comprehensive laboratory network serving the eight hospitals within the Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, our system includes Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, rapid response hospital labs, a Centralized Stat Lab, a Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and a robust outreach infrastructure comprising patient service centers, remote labs, marketing personnel, a courier system, and a billing department. Our service area spans the entire Southeast Michigan region and continues to expand rapidly, featuring:

  • A test menu exceeding 1,000 options, including advanced specialty tests.
  • Less than 1% of tests are outsourced to external reference labs.
  • Reference laboratory services provided to various healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and several out-of-state facilities.

Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Medical Technologist I conducts both quantitative and qualitative analyses on patient specimens following established laboratory protocols. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing test results and preparing samples for examination.
  • Calculating findings and maintaining accurate records.
  • Preparing and validating solutions, reagents, media stains, and other materials used in testing.

The role involves processing and testing various laboratory specimens, reviewing and reporting results, performing operational duties, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, and serving as a resource for other laboratory staff.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an accredited medical technology program, or equivalent military training as defined by 42 CFR.
  • Preferred experience of 6 months to 1 year as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care setting.
  • Must be registered or registry-eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire. Non-US trained personnel must complete equivalency evaluation within 30 days of hire.

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting and analyzing test results.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with all areas of the healthcare team.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for operating various laboratory instruments.
  • Attention to detail for closely examining specimens.
