Position Overview:
The Junior Integration Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the deployment of various intricate utility initiatives and programs. This includes areas such as supervisory control and data acquisition, packet-based networking, distribution automation, cybersecurity, microwave communications, wireless networking (including 4G/5G PLTE), fiber optics, and smart grid technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
The Junior Integration Specialist will engage in fieldwork, collaborating with project teams and subcontractors to facilitate the installation of electronic equipment, cabling preparations, field engineering, commissioning, and start-up solutions tailored to project designs by the Networks, Integration & Automation (NIA) team.

  • Conduct pre-engineering site assessments following established checklists.
  • Oversee installation activities, whether performed in-house or by subcontractors.
  • Evaluate the physical readiness of installations for commissioning based on design criteria.

Technical Duties:
Execute physical modifications in accordance with design specifications, including:

  • Installing fiber and copper cabling within existing pathways.
  • Mounting rack or wall devices, and connecting cables to devices, fiber distribution points, and patch panels.
  • Testing cables, pinouts, fiber optics, and automation points using specialized tools.

Power up devices utilizing standard panel breakers and fuses, ensuring successful device activation through visual confirmation. Connect to devices and implement base configurations adhering to industry standards. Verify commissioning and client application compliance with accepted commissioning protocols.

Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain and update intermediate level as-built documentation for client distribution. Foster relationships with client field personnel regarding project scope, progress, and equipment returns. Ensure adherence to company and site safety regulations.

Additional Responsibilities:
During periods of reduced field activity, assist senior engineers with office-based engineering design support, including:

  • Designing telecommunications networks based on client standards or developing new guidelines.
  • Supporting project deliverables such as materials lists, specifications, equipment layouts, wiring diagrams, and network architecture diagrams.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution. Alternatively, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology, along with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, is acceptable. A Master of Science degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Successful completion of the FE or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam is strongly preferred, along with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without future sponsorship.

Skills and Attributes:
Ideal candidates will have prior internship experience in utility telecommunications projects, particularly in field roles. A strong interest in mission-critical environments and a willingness to learn troubleshooting skills related to electrical and communication systems are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, are required.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
Work locations may vary from office settings to construction sites, necessitating adaptability to diverse environments. Candidates should be capable of performing physical tasks, including lifting objects up to 50 pounds, and should possess the ability to hear and perceive sounds accurately.
