Role Overview:
The Engineering and Science Services and Capabilities Augmentation (ESSCA) contract provides engineering, scientific, and technical support to a prominent space agency. Our Aerosciences Team is a high-performing group engaged in complex tasks that support the Structural Design, Development & Analysis Division. This team plays a vital role in various space exploration programs, contributing to significant advancements in human spaceflight.
Our ESSCA Team Leads act as first-line supervisors, overseeing task orders and personnel to meet the requirements outlined in the ESSCA Performance Work Statement, along with any additional skills that may be necessary as the contract evolves. They ensure that top talent is recruited through disciplined human resources processes and that team members are adequately trained, developed, and perform to our standards. Team Leads are responsible for the proactive management of assigned task orders and personnel to ensure effective fulfillment of program requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a strong and high-performing team to support the government client and management.
- Provide technical supervision, including the assignment and balancing of team skills across various task orders to meet expectations.
- Collaborate with management to assign and develop lead personnel for each task order or subtask as needed.
- Support resource allocation, tracking, and control for tasks and subtasks.
- Oversee individual and team technical performance, which may involve managing sub-task leads and providing technical expertise.
- Ensure the technical quality of work products generated by team members and implement processes in the Performance Management System.
- Train and develop team members through on-the-job training, strategic assignments, and peer-to-peer training.
- Anticipate future resource, skills, and development needs in collaboration with management to optimize workforce training and flexibility.
- Identify and manage risks related to cost, technical aspects, and schedules to ensure the achievement of task order requirements and overall goals.
- Implement safety programs and lead by example in promoting a culture of safety.
- Conduct hiring functions to meet team support needs, including defining position requirements and leading recruitment efforts.
- Develop employee goals and conduct performance evaluations, supporting disciplinary processes when necessary.
- Manage the awards and recognition program to enhance team morale.
- Review and approve employee travel and training requests, along with associated expense reports.
- Collaborate with management to establish and oversee subcontracting requirements, including task assignments and performance management.
Team Leads will support contract operations by:
- Ensuring excellent client relations and fostering harmonious team dynamics through effective conflict resolution.
- Facilitating coordination and communication with other Team Leads and management.
- Supporting leadership communication and sharing best practices across the organization.
- Actively collaborating with personnel to explore new work areas and develop task scopes.
- Leading personnel in the technical execution of task orders.
- Promoting awareness and commitment to safety, mission success, and client satisfaction.
- Notifying management of activities that may require disciplinary or safety actions.
- Ensuring the quality of technical work in accordance with the Performance Management System.
- Strategically assigning personnel to enhance their skills and provide points of contact for each task order.
- Utilizing analytical, design, and testing tools to deliver state-of-the-art capabilities.
- Conducting special projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
A degree in a scientific, engineering, or related field is required, with a preference for degrees from accredited institutions. An advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) is highly desirable. Typically, educational requirements equate to a Ph.D. with a minimum of 9 years of experience, a Master's with at least 13 years, or a Bachelor's with at least 15 years of experience.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical and leadership qualifications in one or more of the following areas:
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Technical leadership and engineering management in aerospace disciplines.
- Proven skills in technical and systems management to support program evaluations.
- Technical expertise in specialties such as aerosciences, aerothermal, or aerodynamics.
