Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Materials Scientist to join our Optical Physics and Systems development group at Corning Advanced Optics. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, cross-functional team and be responsible for the development of and applications for optical materials, including large single-crystal materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of single crystal growth processes and drive improvements to current processes to increase yield or quality of products.
  • Engage across the business team to troubleshoot and improve existing product lines.
  • Lead technical investigations into materials growth, properties, or application, including experimental planning, execution, data analysis, and communicating results.
  • Document knowledge in formal and informal reports.
Requirements
  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Solid-state Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or other relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience in materials science, with a deep technical understanding of single crystal materials and their optical properties.
  • Practical experience in materials growth and characterization methods.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and interface with large teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Practical experience in vertical Bridgman single crystal growth and growth of large crystals.
  • Working knowledge of optical materials, including glass and glass ceramics.
  • Working knowledge of metrology related to the optical properties and characteristics of materials.
What We Offer

Corning offers a competitive salary range of $126,000 to $174,374, depending on experience and qualifications. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and paid time off.
