Position: High School Mathematics Special Education Instructor
Classification: Exempt, 10-Month Employee
Reports to: High School Principal
Overview:
Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is in search of a certified or aspiring special education instructor with a focus on delivering high-quality education in Mathematics and Science to our high school students. Under the guidance of the Principal, educators will collaborate with fellow teachers within their department and across various disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Expertise and Lesson Planning
- Understanding of the IEP process, including referrals and implementation of IEP goals.
- Ability to produce high-quality IEP reports within specified deadlines.
- Exhibit a strong grasp of the subject matter being taught.
- Make lessons engaging and relevant for each student.
- Incorporate technology resources tailored to students' needs and capabilities.
- Design lesson plans that are logical, clear, and tailored to diverse learners.
- Collaborate with specialists to customize instruction for all students.
Instructional Approaches
- Utilize alternative teaching methods, including small group instruction, particularly for students with IEPs identified as Tier 2 or Tier 3.
- Track student performance over time with accurate record-keeping that reflects student growth.
- Connect current content with prior and future learning experiences.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies to cater to all learners.
- Use effective questioning techniques to foster student engagement.
- Assess student understanding and adjust teaching methods as necessary.
- Encourage active participation from all students to maximize learning opportunities.
- Present content in multiple formats to accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Hold each student accountable for their learning progress.
Assessment Techniques
- Utilize various assessment results to inform and adjust instruction.
- Administer both teacher-created and standardized assessments to evaluate student performance.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree in Science or Mathematics preferred.
- NYS certification in Special Education preferred (must be on the pathway).
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in middle school preferred.
- Proven success in non-traditional or urban educational settings.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with educational technology.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, 10-month position. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with attendance at special events as required.
Compensation:
$70,000 - $100,000 annually (Based on Experience) + $7,500 Sign-on Bonus
Travel Requirements:
Minimal to no travel required.
