Per Diem ECMO Clinical Specialist

to become a vital part of our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our innovative staffing model and collaborate with new leadership.

Role Overview:

As an ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Clinical Specialist, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of ECMO circuits for patients in need of extended pulmonary and/or cardiopulmonary support. You will work closely with an ECMO physician, following established orders and protocols to ensure optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist medical professionals with the initiation, management, and conclusion of ECMO therapy, including circuit modifications and medication administration as permitted by your licensure.
  2. Promote a culture of safety by ensuring comprehensive hand-offs of ECMO patients, covering all aspects of care and circuit status.
  3. Conduct thorough assessments of the ECMO circuit to maintain its integrity and ensure patient safety.
  4. Monitor and evaluate blood gas values, anticoagulation parameters, and other laboratory results, adhering to established guidelines to maintain patient well-being.
  5. Adjust ECMO pump flow and oxygenator gas flow as necessary, while managing anticoagulation and other infusions.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and an active RN license.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Perfusionist with a Bachelor's Degree in Perfusion and certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of ECMO therapy, including circuit management, pump adjustments, and patient monitoring systems.
