As a key member of our team, the Estimator will be responsible for developing conceptual budgets and firm price proposals, as well as other pre-construction tasks for both design/build and plan/spec projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the entire estimate process, collaborating with other estimators, sales, and project managers to develop a comprehensive estimate.
  • Evaluate plans and bid documents to determine the level of completion, identify potential risks, and develop necessary questions for a complete proposal.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes, and perform quantity takeoffs for both subcontractor and self-perform scopes of work.
  • Develop subcontractor checklists to ensure completeness, inclusions, and scope gaps/overlaps, and identify the best overall proposal.

  • Write proposals and specifications, and build effective relationships with customers, internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values.

Requirements:

  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with a solid understanding of architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Attention to detail, with an auditing mentality in analyzing mathematical and scope portions of estimating.
  • Understanding of how estimating supports construction operations, with the ability to multitask and work on multiple projects in different phases of the estimating process.
  • Conceptual thinking ability to think outside the plans/specs, with the ability to plan ahead and perform under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Proficient knowledge in quantity takeoff and estimating software, preferably in On Screen Takeoff and Sage Estimating programs, as well as strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or similar technical training/experience, with a minimum of 5-6 years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry.

Ferguson Construction Company offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including medical, life, and disability insurance, vacation, 401k, profit sharing, and bonus opportunities.
