As an estimator, you will be responsible for developing conceptual budgets and firm price proposals, as well as pre-construction tasks for design/build and plan/spec projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Soliciting, following up, and evaluating subcontractor quotes.
  • Conducting quantity takeoffs for subcontractor and self-perform scopes of work.
  • Developing subcontractor checklists to identify completeness, inclusions, scope gaps, and overlaps.
  • Organizing and leading job walk-throughs, communicating project scope changes as needed.
  • Identifying potential value engineering opportunities.
  • Preparing proposals and specifications.
  • Fostering relationships with customers, internal teams, subcontractors, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that align with company core values.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • A broad understanding of architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Attention to detail with an auditing mindset for mathematical and scope analysis.
  • Knowledge of how estimating supports construction operations.
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects in different estimating phases.
  • Conceptual thinking to consider unseen aspects.
  • Ability to plan ahead and perform under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in quantity takeoff and estimating software, preferably On Screen Takeoff and Sage Estimating.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or similar technical training/experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry.
  • Developing information for a smooth transition to operations after project award.
  • Tracking, analyzing, and comparing historical cost data for budgeting and firm pricing.

Ferguson Construction offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including medical, life, and disability insurance, vacation, 401k, profit sharing, and bonus opportunities.
