Department Overview:

The Cyber for Identity Trust and Assurance Department is on the lookout for a Group Leader to head the Trustworthy Computing Group. This group is pivotal in providing specialized knowledge in areas such as reverse engineering, embedded security, malware analysis, and cybersecurity assessments.

Our department is a collective of passionate researchers and practitioners committed to driving innovation in critical technical domains, particularly in Cryptography, Software Assurance, Identity, Credential and Access Management, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence. We focus on developing scalable solutions for systems and software, evaluating technologies, fostering partnerships, and conducting groundbreaking research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist government entities in implementing cryptographic solutions and designing secure systems, utilizing both established and emerging cryptographic techniques.
  • Develop and execute Software Assurance programs to enhance the security posture of software deployments, with a focus on identifying vulnerabilities and best practices.
  • Formulate strategies and assess policy implications for deploying Identity, Credential, and Access Management solutions across various environments.
  • Explore the intersection of Cybersecurity and AI, developing trustworthy applications and frameworks for evaluating AI techniques.
  • Conduct research, evaluation, and operational support for high-priority projects and initiatives.

Leadership and Management:

• Provide daily management and leadership for team members of varying experience levels.

• Oversee administrative functions related to employment and facilitate onboarding for new hires.

• Maintain regular communication with team members to ensure engagement and job satisfaction.

Career Development:

• Offer coaching and mentorship to enhance team performance.

• Foster an environment for developmental discussions, helping team members set realistic goals.

• Advocate for team members to explore career growth opportunities.

Project Management:

• Participate in staffing processes to align projects with team competencies and identify growth opportunities.

• Support the development of transition plans for project assignments.

Performance Evaluation:

• Engage in discussions with project leads regarding performance expectations and growth opportunities.

• Collect feedback on team performance and recommend development actions as necessary.

• Participate in the annual performance review process.

Extended Leadership Responsibilities:

• Act as a change agent in implementing departmental strategies and programs.

• Contribute to project shaping in relation to competency areas.

• Assist in the recruitment and retention of personnel to achieve departmental goals.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent education and experience.

• Must be a U.S. citizen with a Secret clearance or higher.

• Proven leadership and management capabilities.

• Strong technical and program management skills in cybersecurity or related fields.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience at MITRE.

• Familiarity with MITRE Labs and its associated capabilities.
