Your Role as a Student Support Specialist: Are you passionate about assisting students with disabilities in an educational environment? Key Responsibilities...

  • Ensure clients arrive on time by meeting them at designated areas before classes commence.
  • Maintain vigilance and engagement while competently supervising clients, ensuring they are never left unattended unless specified in their Individual Education Plan.
  • Effectively manage crisis situations, including instances of client physical aggression, using prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques.
  • Participate in programs aimed at the habilitation, training, and treatment of clients.
  • Consistently implement Individual Education Plans and behavior management strategies to mitigate maladaptive behaviors, encourage appropriate social interactions, and maximize each client's potential.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required...

  • Must be at least 18 years old for Community Living and Support Services and at least 21 for Children's Residential programs.
  • Formal proof of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary.
  • Completion of a pre-employment physical is mandatory.
  • Must meet and maintain Damar's background screening criteria.
  • No felony convictions or substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal offenses.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Physical: This role requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for extended periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate weights (up to 35 lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination, including the use of a computer keyboard; to travel to various locations using different modes of transportation; and to verbally communicate effectively.

Vision: Must be able to see within the normal visual range, with or without correction.

Hearing: Must be able to hear within the normal audio range, with or without correction.
