Overview:

The Server Engineer will be responsible for securing, monitoring, and maintaining a predominantly Microsoft client/server infrastructure. This role involves recommending new hardware, tools, applications, and processes to enhance the existing setup and support future growth. The engineer will also assist with new implementations and take ownership of projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Windows Server software along with related applications.
  • Establish and uphold robust backup and recovery policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures, including security guidelines for subsystems.
  • Implement and maintain database security by creating and managing users and roles, as well as assigning privileges.
  • Optimize business applications and monitor their performance.
  • Automate processes where feasible by utilizing scripting tools.
  • Enhance monitoring and logging capabilities of server applications.
  • Collaborate with application owners to clarify objectives and streamline existing processes.
  • Implement standardized distributable reports.
  • Document installation and operational procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in administering MS Active Directory, Exchange, and SQL Server (80% server – 20% O365).
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Experienced in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledgeable in backup, restore, and recovery models.
  • Familiar with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies for Windows Server.
  • Experienced in operational automation using PowerShell scripts.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as WhatsUpGold, BackupExec, Langard, and Symantec products.
  • Experience with Windows Server Group Policy.
  • Strong documentation skills for processes and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to work after-hours as needed.
  • Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Able to interface effectively with users and customers.
  • Capable of lifting and moving equipment as necessary.
  • Associates Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience (5 years).
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSE, MCITP, or MCSA are a plus.
