About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Protection Specialist to join our team at the Bureau of Reclamation. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations, as well as developing and implementing policies for hazardous waste management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain compliance with environmental laws, including the Resource Recovery and Conservation Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, the Toxic Substance Control Act, the Oil Pollution Act, the Pollution Prevention Act, and the Clean Water Act.
  • Develop and lead audit and review processes for hazardous waste programs, ensuring that all activities are in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice to senior leadership on complex hazardous waste policies and issues, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Review, analyze, and determine the impact, effect, and intent of program statutes, appropriations language, and OMB, DOI, and Reclamation directives and regulations for assigned programs.
  • Reconcile conflicts between statutory requirements and program goals, ensuring that all activities are aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders, including Department, State, and local government officials, water user organizations, and interested groups and individuals.
  • Represent the Bureau of Reclamation at meetings and conferences, ensuring that our organization's interests are represented and our policies are promoted.
  • Develop and execute workshops and training programs to ensure that all employees understand hazardous waste management requirements and policies.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
  • Must submit a resume and supporting documentation.
  • Must meet any minimum experience requirements.
Qualifications
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-12 level in federal service.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and being responsible for compliance with environmental laws, developing agency policies for hazardous waste program activities, and developing and implementing audit and review programs for hazardous waste programs.
