Position Overview

This temporary role involves the responsible and secure management of evidence and related materials that are no longer needed for investigative or legal purposes within the Davenport Police Department.

The primary objective is to ensure that all disposals are executed in compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards, thereby preserving the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information.


Key Responsibilities


1. Process and prepare evidence materials for disposal according to departmental policies and in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.

2. Review police reports and investigate cases to ascertain whether property and evidence held in secure facilities are eligible for release, destruction, or disposal.

3. Collaborate with relevant department personnel to ensure adherence to proper disposal protocols.

4. Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of all disposals, including the creation of disposal reports.

5. Uphold confidentiality and security of all reports, records, property, evidence, and investigative matters as mandated by applicable laws and departmental policies.

6. Participate in regular inventories and audits of evidence and property items to guarantee system integrity.

7. Assist in monitoring evidence inventory to identify materials eligible for disposal.

8. Help maintain an organized and orderly property/evidence facility.

9. Follow detailed instructions and established procedures; apply appropriate storage methods to maintain records.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications


High School diploma or GED equivalent, along with two (2) years of experience in a professional office setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation as required by the City of Davenport.

Must also pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening as stipulated by the City of Davenport.


Knowledge and Skills

Working Knowledge Of:
OSHA regulations regarding hazardous materials in the workplace, including storage restrictions and notification procedures for department personnel.

Airborne and bloodborne pathogens in the workplace.

Working Skill In:
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to evidence disposal.
Effective communication with others using both technical and non-technical language.
Understanding and adherence to oral and written policies, procedures, and instructions.
Proficient in operating a personal computer with standard or customized software applications relevant to assigned tasks.
Utilizing logical and creative thinking to develop solutions based on written specifications and/or oral instructions.
